Spend the summer at Closer to Fine farm while gaining wisdom, insight and understanding about the many plant, animal and earth spirits who align to create a sustainable, life supporting, mutually respectful eco-system.
Program runs June 1 to November 30, 2026
2 to 5 spots available
Intern for 1 to 3 months**
Stay in private furnished semi-off grid spaces with wifi & mini kitchens
Close to redwood forests, organic farms, beaches, hiking areas and visitor attractions.
Farm amenities include cedar hot tub, spa area, outdoor kitchen and dining areas, tree hammocks and swings, raparian corridor and creek
Interns may bring own camper/van/tent to stay in
Communal organic vegetarian/vegan food included
Contribute 20 +/- hours of labor per week on assigned farm related work
Immersive, hands-on, culturally aware experience in uniquely magical, beautiful and peaceful setting
Connect to nature while learning the fundamentals about running a small farm and land project
Share community chores/cleaning

Learn consent-based regenerative animist agricultural practices and gardening skills
Learn how to grow, harvest and preserve a variety of cultivated and wildcrafted food and medicine plants
Learn practical skills for land and small farm development, operations and management including infrastructure building with repurposed and natural materials, water flow management, irrigation, tools and equipment use, enhancing natural security systems, composting, off-grid sanitation and fire risk management
Learn how to care for and manage farm animal communities including goats, chickens, dogs, cats, wild birds and native animals
Participate in lively and enlightening conversations and events at Closer to Fine Farm
Offer land based reparations through your intentional tending of nature
Share Costs Equitably
In alignment with principals of reciprocity and fair exchange, residential interns will contribute a monthly donation to help cover the costs of their stay (includes housing, utilities, water, food, use of resources, land impact and mentoring).
Cost sharing rates are set on a sliding scale (self selected) of between $250 to $500 per month.
Cash contributions for expenses may be fully or partially bartered in exchange for additional work, services or goods.
Who are We Looking For?
Responsible, conscientious, reliable, justice-minded individuals and couples with excellent communication skills who are passionate about self-reliance, animist land practices, food and medicine sovereignty and working with livestock and farm animals who would like to gain practical hands-on skills and knowledge while meaningfully contributing to Closer to Fine Farm
Demonstrated interest in and alignment with the values, principles and practices set forth in the Black to Earth website (blacktoearth.org)
Able to perform farm tasks including walking and climbing uneven surfaces, lifting and carrying heavy loads, working around large animals and being exposed to weather, nature, allergens and unpredictible environments
Considerate of the privacy of other farm residents and the thoughtful, respectful maintainance of farm property and shared spaces
Pets may be considered if they meet farm guidelines and are proven non-reactive/non-aggressive around all farm animals
Access to transportation is strongly recommended - limited public transport available
Interns will sign a written Residential Internship Agreement which sets forth the terms of their stay.
