closer to fine farm

Closer to Fine Farm is a is a living altar and home to an infinite chorus of plant, animal and earth spirits.

It is a decolonized resting place on the spirit underground where BIPOC, queer and actively allied sojourners connect to the land while intentionally tending to heart, mind, body and spirit.

"If this is my day of harvest, in what fields have I sowed the seed, and in what unremembered seasons?" - Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet

Remember Who You Are

Remember Your Divinity

"Oh to be a pear tree – any tree in bloom! With kissing bees singing of the beginning of the world!"

Zora Neale Hurston, Their Eyes Were Watching God

Our approaches to farming are evolving, experimental and curious, letting the plants, animals, water and earth teach us what they need.   Our land practices are regenerative and consent based rather than extractive.

We are an interwoven network of life; every being on the farm contributes something important.

Goats, chickens, dogs, cats, trees, birds, insects, plants, fungi, rocks, sand, soil, humans and creek all play important roles in the eco-cycle of the farm.

Our farm produce offerings include a wide range of seasonally grown fruits and vegetables, culinary herbs and spices, wild foraged edible plants and fungi, cultivated and wild foraged medicinal plants, herbal teas, tinctures and body care preparations, fresh chicken eggs, goat milk, goat milk soap, goat cheese, farm-canned and fermented foods and beverages, plant seeds and starts, and florals.

We operate on an economy of fair exchange, mutual benefit and reciprocity.

We give thanks and praise to Leah Penniman, author of "Farming While Black," for their brilliant and comprehensive guide to liberation on the land and the spiritualism of black and indigineous farming practices.  Their purposeful vision inspires our daily practice.

Many of us have inherited a trauma relationship with the land and trees as a legacy of the racial abuses of slavery and lynching.

Racist housing and land practices have further restricted black access to safe places where we can experience freedom in nature and open spaces.

Closer to Fine Farm is a place where we reconnect our spirits to the land and reclaim our connection to the Infinite.  Here we glimpse our ancient spiritual connections as we unselfconsiously friend the trees, soil, animals and insects.

In these simple and humble ways we strive to liberate and desegregate our minds and spirits.

Healing our relationship with nature is medicine for the Earth and all life.

"Revolution is based on land. Land is the basis of all independence. Land is the basis of freedom, justice, and equality."-- Malcom X

"We're all under the same sky and walk the same earth; we're alive together during the same moment."

"How do I talk to the flower?  Through it I talk to the Infinite.  And what is the infinite? It is that silent, small force... When you look onto the heart of a rose there you experience it- but you can't explain it. There are certain things, often very little things, like the peanut, the little piece of clay, the little flower that cause you to look within - and then you see the soul of things."― George Washington Carver
